Introduction
In this module, I’ll walk through how to consume the content of this course and then give you a quick overview of what’s ahead.
This section is unique to the Introduction. It’s an overview for the whole course. You’ll get an overview in Executive Summary in the Modules that follow.
Here’s how each module will be structured:
WIIFY - What’s In It For You. A quick look at what you’ll get from the module
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY - The module in brief for those who want to “skim”
BODY - This is the content of the course
REVIEW - A quick wrap up of what was covered
EXERCISES - If there are any, they’ll be here
REFERENCES - Links and notes to works used or quoted
That’s it. Next up ...
The introduction will give you the following:
An understanding of the platform
An understanding of your learning options
A Course Overview
Executive Summary
1. This platform, TigYog, is interactive. Click things. Slide things.
2. There are 3 ways to consume this content: skim, engage, & immerse.
3. The course includes 10 modules (TOC below).
Platform
I am using TigYog for this course. It is a simple and interactive platform for sharing content. It’s easier than video but not as “long form” as a book or blog.
As you already discovered, there are buttons. In some cases, there will be more than one button. You get to choose which button you click.
What’s that you ask? What if you want to go back to see the option you didn’t click?
Click the “refresh” circle to the right of the buttons

Want to give it a try?
Nice! You are a risk taker and an adventurer ...
Now go click the “refresh circle” above and click the other button.
Ok! So those are button.
There are also “sliders.”
This is a slider. You slide it to the left. How you slide it to the left depends on what type of computer you have ... good luck 🤷
( Tip: I’m using a Mac and it’s just a two-finger slide across the trackpad with my cursor over the text. If you’re on a PC, just ring your call button and Tommy will come back there and hit you on the head with a tack hammer ... or try this or maybe the scroll wheel?)
Ok. Now that you have a sense of how this (platform) works, let’s talk about the 3 ways you can consume this content (i.e., your Learning Options)
(editor’s note: I stole this concept from Ray Dalio and his layout for his book, “Principles for the Changing World Order”)
Learning Options
1. SKIM: If you just an overview, read the Executive Summary for each module. It should give you a sense of the information contained therein.
2. ENGAGE: This is the course proper. I hope everyone makes it to this learning option. It’s where I’ll break down the individual dynamics and then show you how they work together.
3. IMMERSE: There is a lot going on BEHIND THE SCENES WRT* the metaphor (an atom), the fractal nature of the model, and some other cool material that I’d love to share. HOWEVER, all that “extra” info can be distracting. For that, we’re going to be taking some optional “Field Trips.”
Oh no? Sounds like you had a rough go of 6th grade (I did too - Mr. Ayala made me sit on the bench at recess the whole week of my birthday).
But ... what about just checking it out ? Normally, if you want to skip ... skip you will. But how about just trying it this one time. There’s no commitment ... I promise.
Sweet! (You’re going to love these!!)
Field Trips are a separate TigYog (again, that’s the platform we’re on right now). A lot of my thinking around the metaphor of this model revolves around atoms and fractals, quantum mechanics and chaos theory, and I’d love to share some of that learning you. However:
You don’t need Field Trips to be able to do this course. Everything you NEED is here. Field Trips are for fun ...but only for some of us. None the less, they are NOT NECESSARY.
(In an effort to publish this, it won’t have field trips to start. I’ll add those in ASAP)
Ok ... I think that’s about it.
Here’s what’s included in this course
Pursuing Purpose - Introduction ⬅ You are here
Module 0 (The Model) An overview of the model and metaphor
Module 1 | XQ - Purpose: Why are you here
Module 2 | TQ - Thoughts: Mental Focus and Health (Inner Ring)
Module 3 | EQ - Emotions: Emotional Strength and Health (Inner Ring)
Module 4 | NQ - Energy: Physical NRG and execution (Middle Ring)
Module 5 | SQ - Relationships: Relational Health and Engagement (Outer Ring)
Module 6 | Putting it All Together for Personal Impact
Module 7 | Putting it All Together for Organizational Impact
Module 8 | Impact Anchors (Designing Projects for Impact)
Module 9 | Communicating for Impact
Bonus Module | The Dynamics of Impact and The Economics of Mutuality
So let’s get to Module 0 where I’ll introduce the model (The Dynamics of Impact ®) and they key dimensions (the dynamics of impact).
Exercise
You’re off the hook for the Introduction ... no exercises here. But in the future I’ll include ideas that may help you in some practical way or other.
